The most common health problem being suffered is the Kidney failure, in which the only course for the treatment is to undergo Hemodialysis/ dialysis. Kidney Dialysis process is a life-support treatment that uses special machines to filter harmful wastes, salt and excess fluids from the blood. Thus helps in restoring blood to a normal level which creates a healthy balance.
Accordingly, the Dialysis treatment consists of a standstill machine, which is costly, time-consuming, however, this has been followed as a yearlong way of curing kidney failure cases.
Through the years of changes and developments in science and technology, researchers had sought to find a new innovation in this biological field that is, a completely wearable and portable alternative replacing the normal dialysis machine, which will allow more mobility and more sessions in comparison, and most importantly eliminating the hassle of hemodialysis method.
Currently, the FDA results of a Wearable Artificial Kidney has been published. This resembles as a prototype of the traditional, stationary hemodialysis machine with a miniature version, which would one day replace the current dialysis method. Hence this machine comprises of many features which made it more effective. In a normal dialysis method, pure water of half a liter is used for every minute whereas in the Wearable Artificial Kidney water filtration method is used to save and clean water within the portable machine.
On the basis of FDA approved trials on humans nothing serious has been reported maintaining a stable circulatory system. But later during the process with the seventh patient, the device happened to face technical problems thus producing a carbon dioxide gas bubbles in the dialysis solution.
This approved trials which involved patients gave a favorable satisfaction to the Wearable Artificial Kidney method than the former method. It was favorable because this method gave them a treatment to be received at home, minimal hospital visits, and made them experience a better quality of life. Hence, researchers are focusing on redesigning the device to make it more efficient and convenient.
