Rapid technological advancements have paved a way for automatic autonomous vehicles in Switzerland. PostBus is a leading bus company among public transport network in Switzerland. PostBus is now enabling the residents and visitors alike the chance to travel around the town centre in two Navya ARMA driverless shuttles.
PostBus has acquired two Navya ARMA shuttles at the end of 2015. The first phase of driverless electric vehicles has been performed on private sites. It is from 23rd June that both residents and visitors of the town Sion were allowed to use autonomous shuttles.
Navya ARMA was launched in October 2015. ARMA is a 100 % electric and autonomous transport vehicle. This innovating and intelligent driverless shuttle can transport up to 15 passengers and safely drive up to 45 km/h, mostly on private sites. The Navya ARMA calls upon state of the art technologies, developed to ensure safety, comfort and performance.
Entrusted to the best French specialists, its design is the fruit of ten years of research and expertise which allows it to achieve the highest level of autonomy possible: Level 5. Making the Navya ARMA the first entirely autonomous series vehicle.
Most importantly, Navya ARMA comes with sensors that are made of high-end technology. These sensors allow ARMA to position itself within a few centimeters of its desired target. It further allows identification of all types of obstacles on the road – fixed, such as posts, and mobile, such as pedestrians. These sensors work efficiently in both daylight and night time.
Federal authorities of Switzerland have approved these driverless vehicles to deploy in city roads. Making PostBus the first ever public transport network to use autonomous shuttles in the urban area.
Navya and PostBus have worked together for more than a year to introduce this unique and intelligent form of transport.
Christophe Sapet said, “This is a turning point for our company and for autonomous technology.” Christophe Sapet is President at Navya in Lyon.
