Superhuman Vision Forever: With an 8 Minute Surgery

Vision enables a person to feel the world. A clear vision thereby is necessary for every person to pursue anything with wholeheartedness. Eyes are the sensitive organs. Either constant strain to eyes or aging causes bad eyesight.  Apparently, it means decreased eye vision. The innovation made by Dr. Garth Webb, an optometrist in British Columbia, is a groundbreaking one.

Webb has created a lens that would provide superhuman 3x 20/20 vision, irrespective of the age. Moreover, the expected time to perform the surgery is eight minutes, which is a remarkably short duration of time. Lens would be custom-made. Lens would then folded like a taco in a saline-filled syringe. Which later on are placed in the eye. Then it unravels itself within ten seconds. The lens is named the Ocumetics Bionic Lens.

Webb informed CBC news that the project has been in works for the past eight years. He further stated the cost of research and development which amounted to $3 million dollars. The cost also included the acquisition of international patents. It also included the cost of securing the biomedical manufacturing facility in Delta, B.C.

Such a discovery has become an apple of all those eyes, suffering from bad sight. Bionic lens has therefore brought an end for driving glasses, progressive lenses and contact lenses. The CBC in such a context reports that bionic lenses have transformed the eye- care industry.

Bionic lens offers the greatest advantage. A natural eye is prone to decay over a period. While, the bionic lens are never prone to cataracts. Bionic lens thereby offers a super and precise vision. Webb on this note claims that “This is vision enhancement that the world has never seen before.” Webb further added that “If you can just barely see the clock at 10 feet, when you get the Bionic Lens you can see the clock at 30 feet away.”

14 top ophthalmologists gathered at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in San Diego. It is here that Webb’s efforts were recognised recently.  Dr. Vincent DeLuise, one of the fourteen ophthalmologists, said that “I think this device is going to bring us closer to the holy grail of excellent vision at all ranges — distant, intermediate and near.”

Bionic lens provides supervision to anyone, irrespective of age. However, the ideal age to get the surgery is supposed is, to be over 25. Because eyes are considered to be fully developed by age 25.
